The Dutchman has played down the club's Champions League exit, saying things are not as they used to be at Old Trafford and expectations should be adjusted.
Louis van Gaal has issued a warning that
Manchester United should no longer be expected to win consistently.
United exited the Champions League this week following a 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg, while a 0-0 draw with West Ham last weekend left them three points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City ahead of this weekend's games.
Van Gaal has drawn criticism for his side's languid style of play and lack of attacking vigour this season, with many citing the combination of success and exciting football delivered by Alex Ferguson as proof the Dutchman is not the right man to continue at Old Trafford.

Giroud hatrick hero in arsenal's comeback

With seven key first-team players missing through injury, Arsene Wenger recalled Theo Walcott after his recovery from a calf problem -- but it was Giroud who would produce the goods when it mattered as Arsenal made light work of a seemingly difficult task to seal a 3-0 win.

James Milner feels there is even more to come from Liverpool after their stunning victory at Manchester City.Jurgen Klopp's rampant Reds knocked City off the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Most of the damage was done in a whirlwind opening period as Liverpool raced into a 3-0 lead after forcing an Eliaquim Mangala own goal and with further strikes from Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. It was some statement by the Merseysiders as momentum continues to build under new boss Klopp while City were left with plenty of questions to answer.Midfielder Milner, who left City for Anfield in the summer, said: "I thought we were outstanding. We pressed them all over the field, created a few chances and I thought we could have had a few more."In the second half we didn't want to keep it tight -- we wanted to keep doing what we were doing and get on the front foot. We wanted to be in their faces.
