Liverpool forward Mo Salah crowned BBC African Footballer of the Year beating Sadio Mane to award

Mo Salah has been crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year.

The Liverpool forward has won the gong after a successful year for both club and country.


Salah began the year by reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt and later helped steer his country to their first World Cup finals since 1990.

He scored five of their seven final qualifying stage goals to send them to Russia.

Such was his impact, fans nicknamed the national team 'Salah's Egypt'.

His form continued domestically, as his prolific record in front of goal for Roma earned him a £37million move to Liverpool.

Since switching to Anfield, Salah, 25, has scored 20 goals in all competitions, putting him on course to break the club's seasonal scoring record.

Thirteen of his strikes have come in the Premier League, with the most recent being in the Merseyside derby draw with Everton at the weekend.

100,000 runners for 2018 Access Bank Lagos marathon

Over 100,000 athletes are expected to take part in the 3rd Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on  February 10, 2018.


General Manager of the race, Yussuff Alli,   said at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday the target was to get the race an IAAF gold label in its fifth year.


Alli said  the organisers of  the race would work towards acquiring spy cameras along routes, kilometre mats, and other criteria needed to make the silver label recognition achievable.
 He added that more than 200 elite athletes would take part in the  race
He added, “At the 2017 edition, we had over 73,000 participants, which has made us the second best marathon in Africa.


 For the 2018 edition, we are looking at having over 100,000 participants because of the 10km family race we are introducing.”
Executive Director of Access Bank, who are the title sponsors of the race, Victor Etuokwu, said the prize money of $50,000 for the 2017 edition  would be retained for the 2018 edition.
